Forced changes to Solo bookings from August 2008

We are extremely sorry to have advise that the accelerating amount of pain that is being endured by Ollie and the so far lack of a solution or cure to reduce the pain caused by the problem of his crumbling vertebrae has forced us to withdraw from many bookings. It is with great reluctance that previously accepted bookings that would have deemed long traveling times from his home base of Essex will be removed from the diary bookings.

We are most eager to stress that this situation will be monitored very carefully and if Ollie's consultants and surgeons can find a way to prevent or reduce his pain which would allow him to travel greater distances again without having the crippling effects it causes at the moment he will be back on the road to play to his friends and supporters wherever he is asked to go.

The huge majority of clubs that we have had to withdraw from have been very understanding about this sad situation and we wish to make it clear that we have absolutely no option in these circumstances, there was the odd club organizer that was more than a little put out by this forced action and his feelings were made clear, all the others without exception asked that we contact them as soon as the problem is resolved and they will rebook Ollie, they also wish Ollie a speedy recovery and the best of luck. On our part we can say without fear of contradiction that the time when Ollie can travel in the van to a gig without being in great pain cannot come quickly enough

The position with the All Star Band Tour will not alter, it is planned that all Theatres booked for the tour will take place as advertised. The situation with the band is very different from playing solo, there are eight people to fetch, carry and lift, Ollie can stand or sit at will when playing for his main set in the show, the fact is we are trying to book more Theatres for the show band to increase the tour dates because Ollie will be able to go to places that he is unable to get to if playing solo. 

We hope all those decent people who are able to fully understand our predicament will forgive the need to do this and give Ollie their support either morally or by coming along to a Theatre concert with the band and show him encouragement and support. We have and never will take your support for granted, we regret fully and unreservedly apologize for the action we have been forced to take and most sincerely hope for your understanding

The club at South Normanton Community Centre, South Normanton Derbyshire DE55 2EJ where Ollie was booked to play on Friday 26th September has asked us to let all those folk who have paid in advance to contact them to arrange a refund. If you have booked this performance and paid already please telephone the club organizers on 01773 780862 Also if you know anybody who may have booked and does not have access to the internet you could do them a good turn and pass on this message.

OLLIE & "BEST of FRIENDS"

THE ALL STAR BAND

The All Star band is a group of professional musicians who have come together with OLLIE to perform mainly at Theatres and  concerts. The band consists of six talented professional artistes performing a wide variety of the best in Country Music.

On Lead guitar is Merv Futter who has successfully performed both with his own band, solo and as one half of a duo on the Country music circuit in his own right as vocalist and musician guitarist since changing genre from rock & pop music bands many years ago. Merv will be playing lead guitar and providing harmonies as well as doing duets with Ollie on some numbers 

On pedal steel and harmonies there is Les Wright, one of  England's leading steel players, Les has played in his own duo and can be described as a "steel master" and brilliant exponent of making the steel guitar talk, the expertise he offers to this band can be heard all the way through the performance and in particular when he plays his steel solo that must be seen and heard to be believed

Bass guitar is played by Maria Futter, who would normally play rhythm guitar, this  young lady has  outstanding talent and a good solo voice, no doubt inherited from dad Merv and the other half of the duo with her father when not performing with this outfit. Maria also sings harmonies and in the show a great number with Ollie in duet which will have the audience more than a little impressed.

On keyboards they have the lovely Debbie Allen, again Debbie had her own very successful band and has joined up with these musicians to add keyboard depth and expertise, A master of the keyboard and also a music teacher. Debbie will be joining the harmonies and will be doing a duet with Ollie of a very popular song. During the show Debbie will be giving a solo performance of a lively number on accordion that will get the audience swinging.

On drums is Andy James who played in the Strand Pop band and then with Alf Gosling in the A4s Country style, he has also played Jazz Rock and Blues. Andy has done session work with singer songwriter David Welfane with his recording Made Of Glass. Andy is very much looking forward to this Theatre tour and he fits in very well with the band, they are all getting on together very well and rehearsals are continuing in order that a good mix of material will be used.

Fronting this show will be Ollie, he will be singing the lead vocals and playing rhythm guitar, the show has many of the songs that are requested by audiences on a regular basis and some that are rarely heard at dance performances, A  mixture of ballad and up tempo numbers with the full backing from this full line up including duets, harmonies and a few surprise solo's from the band. The show content allows the opportunity for the audience to sing along and add some fun with really good songs known by everyone

Ollie has removed his beard, some say he looks better for it others would prefer him to grow it back. We don't know how long it will be before he decides it's too cold without it but we do fully expect it will be re-grown at some point

The Christmas dance was a huge success and the venue was bulging at the seams, with this in mind and as the summer and autumn dances were also so well supported, we have taken the venue again in 2008 for three dates.

The ticket prices for these dances is £ 6.00 each  It should be noted at this early stage that this is a bring your own venue, Teas and Coffees and Rolls can be purchased but this year we will not be serving a buffet at the December dance as we have at previous years.

We are pleased to advise that we have now sent an order to Denmark where Ollie's recordings are growing in popularity. If any country music fans in Scandinavia would like to purchase any Ollie CDs they could E Mail to irma_erling@stofanet.dkThis is a country and western music club with over 1000 members but Irma and Erling are also sending out Ollie recordings to those who wish to purchase them so if you would like to contact them they will advise what is available and if these recordings are available by mail order.  

Folk sending to us from Australia to purchase Ollie's CDs will be pleased to learn that we now have outlets who stock all of Ollie's recordings including the Video and DVD.
