Born on Mersea Island Essex on his grandfather's farm just after the Second World War Ollie has always been proud of his working class background and his close ties with Essex that he still holds dear to this day. He lives in Colchester with his wife Gail having moved there in his early teens. He married Gail who is also from Colchester in 1977 and both are happy to stay in the town where their roots are firmly placed.

Ollie has been playing his own style of music for over forty years and like all talented musicians has passed through various phases of style and type. In his early days he played in pop bands and was often away from home for weeks at a time, he very soon learnt the need to be fully versatile, playing on tour all around the U.K the need for a wide and varied repertoire was a must for all young professional musicians in those days when music had a very wide spectrum from rock and roll to slow country ballads at a time when all types of music could be in the top ten record charts along side each other.

Ollie later became a session musician, where he played on recordings and backings to some of the top stars at the time, later realizing that this life style was causing him to miss out so much on his private life and seeing his children grow up he decided to quit the band scene and he started playing in the pubs around Essex where he very soon filled up every pub he played in and became a big local attraction. This popularity very soon became more widespread and Ollie received bookings from Country and Western clubs and dances where he now appears at venues once again all over England but the proviso always being that he goes home after each and every appearance no matter how far away it may be.

The deep golden voice of Ollie Austin has won many fans, many hundreds of which first heard his songs playing at market places throughout England, Ollie's fan base is widespread and he has many fans as far a field as Australia as well as Scandinavia and Europe.

Offers for him to go to Nashville have been made and politely declined, taking the view that he much prefers to play the music he wants to play where he wants to play it and a preference for being his own man rather than having someone else pulling the strings has been made a priority in his thinking.

It is hoped that in the future more theatre work can be arranged so that a greater number of country music lovers can get to see him perform, the country music clubs where he plays at this moment are almost always sold out to capacity weeks before he is due to perform and his weekend booking dates for venues are normally filled up to two years in advance.

Ollie Austin is an English country singer who is proud to be English and who could take the American Country Music scene by storm, but this modest Essex gentleman says in all sincerity that it would be like taking coals to Newcastle. What the public say who follow him, those who have heard him and those who know him say is that the simple fact is our coal may just be a lot better than some of the coal they have in America. Perhaps we shall never know for sure.
